Our training is based on the Schweizer 300CBi which is rated as one of the best training helicopters in the world.

Trial Introductory Flight

If you are not sure if flying helicopters is for you, have a go and try it!! For only $250 you can experience how it feels to fly a helicopter before you make up your mind. A trial introductory flight consists of a full pre-flight brief of how the helicopter flies and how all the controls work before you go and fly for half an hour. After five minutes in the air you will be trying out the controls one by one until the flight instructor gives you all the controls and lets YOU fly the helicopter under supervision.

 

License Requirements

The Australian Civil Aviation Authority (CASA) lays down minimum training requirements for each license sought, hour requirements for each license are detailed below.

 

Helicopter Private Pilot License PPL-H

Be at least 17 years of age
Hold at least a class 2 medical
Passed the Private Helicopter Theory exam
Completed at least 50 hours of helicopter flight training
Passed the Private Helicopter flight test

There are exemptions to the rules, if you already hold a Private or Commercial Airplane License the hours required are reduced to a minimum of 38 hours of helicopter flight training.

 

Helicopter Commercial Pilot License CPL-H

Be at least 18 years of age
Hold at least a class 1 medical
Passed the Commercial helicopter Theory exam
Completed at least 105 hours of helicopter flight training
Passed the Commercial Helicopter Flight test

There are exemptions to the rules, if you already hold a Private or Commercial Airplane License the hours required are reduced. If you hold a Private Airplane License PPL-A the hours are reduced to minimum of 70 hours of helicopter flight training. If you hold a Commercial Airplane License CPL-A the hours are reduced to a minimum of 60 hours of helicopter flight training.

 

Helicopter Endorsement Training

If you already hold a Helicopter Pilots License and want to be endorsed on a new type of helicopter, we can offer a Turbine Transition in a Bell-206 Jet Ranger, or endorsement training in a Robinson R44 and Schwizer 300cbi. The hours required for a Turbine Transition is 5 hours, and 3 hours in a R44, and Schweizer 300cbi, if you already hold a piston engine endorsement.

 

Helicopter Training Rates

NOTE: Students training towards a Commercial Helicopter License are exempt from GST.
